Getting Ready for my Show

I have been busy getting ready for an upcoming art show. My intention was to book a show in Campbell River to get some 'up-island' exposure. When the opportunity to be "feature artist" for the month of July at Impressions Framing and Gallery came up, I thought it was a stellar idea. It also coincides with their annual River City Arts Festival on July 26th. That will be a blast!

I sent out a press release to the media, four weeks in advance. I was thrilled when the Parksville Qualicum News printed an excerpt in their paper, along with the full version online. It will also be picked up by EyesOnBC in the July issue.

I have sorted through my paintings, and picked the ones for the show. This was not an easy task as it involved spreading them all over the living room and not being able to use the couch for a nap until I had made my final selection.

For marketing I made a calendar and art cards. The calendar I started in May, so it only needed a few final adjustments before zooming it into space for my printers. I have been able to stream-line the card making process making it quite painless. The response to the cards has been wonderful. I am just waiting for the calendars to arrive (on time please).

Last but not least on June 30th we will pack the car (by we I mean Jeff) and deliver the paintings, calendars and cards to the gallery. Timing is everything, my friends, as a late afternoon delivery, means a dinner out in Courtenay.

The show runs the entire month of July with a
'meet and greet' on Saturday July 5 from 10:00 - 1:00

Here is a sneak preview.

See you at the show. Take home some ART that you LOVE.

Upcoming Exhibition

When Corinne from The Old School House Arts Centre, (TOSH) in Qualicum Beach, approached me last August and asked me if I wanted an exhibition there in October, my first reaction was major panic. I said "This October?!!" "No", she said, "October 2011". "Oh, next year.", I said. Well needless to say, I was over the moon with excitement about being asked to exhibit my work. What an honour!

My second reaction was, 'oh my gosh, that's only a year away!

First I felt that I needed a place to work. After the Island Arts Expo in November 2010, I approached a friend of mine and asked if I could rent some space in her studio. I knew that it had been vacant for couple of years and would be a perfect place to work.

I started moving myself (along with car loads of art supplies) into the studio. I spent the first few weeks just having fun - experimenting with new materials, playing around with texture, etc. Even doing a few abstracts, which I had never done before. I got many old projects out of the way. It was great!

After the new year I decided that I better get to some more serious work.

Fast forward several months... and NOW we are only a few weeks away. Oh my gosh! My paintings are ready and they look great! I need to work on the marketing. But that's another story!

Art Exhibition

Some of you have been asking about my dog, Cheyenne, so I thought I'd post an up to date image of him. He is great! He enjoys his walks along the beach and he also throughly enjoys his several naps per day. He is becoming known around the island ... as a matter of fact some folks recognize him, before they recognize us! Hmmm!

Heeeerrrr's the dog! He sees a seal, but not quite sure what it is. There was nothing like it in the prairies - so this is new!

Now that we have that out of the way .... my very most exciting news for this week .... drum roll please ... is that I have been asked to have a Solo Exhibition of my paintings at the Rollin' Art Gallery in Port Alberni.

The show will run from April 24-May 20 with a meet and greet on Sat. April 25th. It runs in conjunction with Days of the Arts on April 25th in Port Alberni; a self-guided artists studio tour. In otherwords, I am part of the tour!

Now my head is spinning, as I must prepare a bio, update my brochures, and choose 20 - 30 paintings to display, all within the next week. (hmm I should probably get a hair cut before then as well)

I am very excited about the opportunity and I am looking forward to having a Fantastically GREAT Show!

I better get to work!

Till Next Time ...

Love what you Do ... and Do what you Love.
